[Shady Japanese] How to Piss-off Your Mom

After some requests, I thought I would make some Japanese language videos. Hopefully I can make some fun ones with things that aren't already covered in other videos out there.

I decided to role play a scene where a kid is complaining to his mother. Watch and learn some phrases that will have your mom slapping you in no time.

Japanese Corner - 速い、早い、速やか

A short discussion on the differences between the words 速い（はやい）、早い（はやい）、 速やか (すみやか) and what situations you might want to use them in. 速やか is a word that I encountered recently and thought I might share when and why you would want to use it. Japanese Toilet Paper - environmentally friendly and polite

While sitting on the can the other day, I noticed two interesting phrases on a role of Japanese toilet paper.

牛乳パック再利用 and 毎度ありがとうございます.

初めての田植え

雨がやんで晴れてきた。６月２４日

久しぶりに日記を書いた。なんとなく書きたくなった。この頃そんなに忙しくないから。。。

さて、今日の話題は田植えだ。田植えという言葉を聞いたことがなかったが、今良く分かるよ。もう二回やったことがあるからさ。でもね、田植えって何でしょう。
田植えという言葉は、米を植えることです。最近、農家は機械で米を植えるから、手で植えるのはちょっと珍しい経験だ。先週、手で田植えをしてとてもラッキーだった。

１回目は、中学校の生徒と一緒に１時間ぐらいやった。短かったけど、田植えの基本を習った。難しくなかった。最初は、田んぼの左側から右側まで３０センチおきに玉を付けてあるロープを伸ばしてその後ろに並ぶ。次に、苗をえんぴつのように握って、玉の少し前に植える。一列に植えてしまってからロープを約４０～５０センチを進めて前と同じように植えて、そのようにして田んぼの向こう側まで続く。思ったより簡単にできた。

二回目、NancyとNancyのXX市に住んでいる友達と一緒に田植えをした。友達の一人は最近土地を買って米を育てたいと思っている。今回は彼にとって初めてなので、皆は彼を手伝おうと思った。また、田植え機を持っていなかった。１１人の力で５時間ぐらいかかった。ちょっときつかったが、皆が協力して楽しくできた。

その後、久住にあるいい景色が見える温泉に行って時間を過ごした。７時頃XX市に戻って皆と食事したりお酒を飲んだりしていっぱい語り合った。僕は、お酒を飲んだからそこで泊まった。次の日目が覚めた時、体に痛みを感じたが、いやな気持ちではなかった。逆に何かを完遂したって感じだった。

JLPT! Put it in the Bank

On December 7th, I took the JLPT. No horror story here, I was prepared and nothing really surprised me. Put this one in the bank baby. It was actually nice to take a test again. I've been missing the pressure that requires you to focus all your attention on one object and come as close to perfection as possible. I took level 3 this year and will most likely take level 2 next year, though it will not be the primary focus of my Japanese studies. Check the above video for a full recap plus some other footage.

２００８年１０月２４日の日記

中学校で英語を教えながら、日本の英語の先生が言語の語彙をよく言うので、僕はよく「表現」とか｢発音｣など聞きます。初めて聞いた時は、それが全然分かりませんでした。大学で日本語を勉強したのに簡単と普通な日本語だけ覚えて述語をあまり覚えませんでした。それで、先生は生徒に英語の文法を日本語で教えてあげるときは、僕があまり分かりませんでした。だって毎日少しずつ分かるようになりました。今は、英語の文法を日本で説明するのが大体分かって嬉しいです。将来に僕は日本語で英語の文法を説明するようになるかな。。。

１０月１日の日本語の日記

先週の日曜日は、犬飼中学校の先生達は犬飼リーバーパークでの第６３回国民体育大会カヌー競技会のスタッフになりましたので、今週の月曜日は休みでした。その日にたくさんしたい事がありましたけれども、台風は来ていましたので、どこも出かけずアパートにいました。少しさびしかったです。誰とも話さなかったし、空は暗かったし、ずっと雨が降っていましたから。こんな場合は元気になる事がちょっと難しいと思います。普通は、音楽を聞いたり、コメデーを見たりします。しかし、月曜日はその代わりに、インターネットで「New York Times」とか「The Times」のサイトを読みました。それは面白くなかったです。そのサイトはアメリカーの経済だけ書いてありました。「ダウ平均が安定していない」とか「株価が急激に下がっています」そんな記事ばっかりでした。それを読んだ後でちょっと落ち込んでしました。今週の月曜日は楽しい日ではありませんでした。次回休みの日はもっと明るいことを望みます。
